About the Surveyor
Captain Bailey Martin’s journey on the water began before he could even walk. Growing up on the Chesapeake Bay, he was behind the helm of a boat thanks to his grandfather’s early guidance. His passion for boating has only deepened since, as he’s been navigating boats since the age of 13.
Captain Martin holds a 100-Ton Masters Near Coastal license and brings over 5 years of professional experience in a range of maritime positions. Of the many locations he’s worked, Key West, Florida, holds a special place in his heart. He has captained vessels as large as a 60-foot, 100-passenger water taxi in Tampa, Florida.
In addition to his hands-on experience, Captain Martin has apprenticed under three top surveyors on the East Coast and is a proud graduate of the Chapman School of Seamanship, where he earned his certification in Marine Surveying. He also holds an ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) certification. As a third-generation captain, surveying allows him to continue learning while helping others embark on their boating adventures.
About the Logo and Name
The name Uncharted reflects the journey every new boat owner embarks upon—into “uncharted waters.” Just like navigating unknown seas, boat ownership can be filled with uncertainties. That’s where we come in.
Our logo is inspired by the role of the lookout on a ship—scanning the horizon to spot potential dangers ahead. Today, a Marine Surveyor plays that same crucial role. At UMS, we take this responsibility seriously. Our mission is to thoroughly inspect and uncover any issues with your boat before they become a costly problem.
